Hidey ho everybody,
I just got a little story that I have to get out and about, while everyone and their brother decided to go to the infamous US Open, your truly decided upon better judgment to try and get some well needed points for that all too prestigious Norba License. So here is what I decided to do, I jumped in my little mobile with the rest of my clan and we headed on down to Deep Creek Maryland, home of the once renowned Maryland State Championship, now home to the Wisp Downhill Series, and in it’s infant year, the boys got a lot to offer all riding levels, from beginner to pro.
The actual race course was the old state championship course, with exceptions to all the new and kick ass improvements that the wisp team has putten into the course, like the infamous (s) turns at the top of the course, now they are banked dirt corners with a step down in front of them and a 2-3 foot kicker after(cool ass section). Then basically you roll through that hairy ass single track into the rock/root chute and get spit out onto the slope. Then came that(oh shit I hope I’m in shape section) the peddle, peddle, and peddle section, as you entered back into the woods, banked corner, kicker, table top, kicker, then chute to slope. Shoot the slope into the little chute, down through the woods to grandmas house, (oops I got lost) no but serious, the last section was a mud fest slide like hell hold on and hope you stay on, I’m talking fun boys.  Now as you would come to expect, here comes that big ass step up into the field(well it’s there) but it is all dirt now so get ready to launch into the outer limits off that bad boy, then as soon as you get back to earth, peddle to the finish, all I almost forgot about the 2 kickers set up at the top of both embankments you have to come down to get to the finish. All in all it was a great race with some good fun thrown in to ensure the entry money was well spent.
While we waited for the times to be posted and pick up our prizes for hitting podium positions, all of the race participants decided to try out some of the fresh freeride obstacles that wisp has built this year(I think they are going to move the drops) after everybody started warming up to these fresh built drops/teeter, of course you know MTBers, a few young bucks decided instead of dropping off them to go ahead and just jump the whole contraption, there was some pretty cool midair ejections during this time, but no injuries. I guess wisp should not put ladders at the end of a 75 yard piece of pavement, they should of known someone would go for it, after all we all are just MTBers. Well I hope this little excerpt makes it to print,  I know stick to riding MTB’s, you’ll make it a lot further,  until my next little story happens, ride like hell and wreck hard, atleast you’ll have an excuse for not riding,
Later James
