  Massanuttenbutfun!!!!!!

Well The 2006 Mid Atlantic series kicked off this past weekend at the Massanutten ski resort in Virginia. The course has a claim to fame as being a World Cup race in 1997.
When we first showed up we figured oh well same course as years past. No maintenance. What a waste of time. I could not have beef more wrong. This course was just so damn fun. The beginning rock section took some of us a bit to brave up, but once we started blasting it, it just tickled us in places that had been ignored for a long time. The soft loamy snaking single track was getting full of chuckholes as the day wore on, but even that increased the fun. If you are a good line picker, there were so many fast-unspoiled secret lines. The ending 100yard long bowling ball sized rock garden at the end was a high-speed suspension and nerve work out. So many people cam e away stoked up for the rest of the season. Even yours truly stepped it up a notch and attacked the course like I was 20 again.

Not only was it a fun race, but also it was great just to get out and see so many friends after the long winter hibernation. It was good to see Jason G out there running fast and smooth. Will someone please give this guy a full boat sponsorship and let him show you what I know he is capable of!!! Most of our buds from Reading racing were there as well as some of our new friends from DC Street. The newly formed Kranzel bike team was there with the exception of new daddy Eric and Gabe who unfortunately wasn’t able to make it. Kudos goes out to Steve and Chad for totally shining in their first real Downhill competitions. I expect to see many kranzel bike podiums in the future. Jake had a great run despite flatting in the first 15 feet and tearing it on down the hill all kinds of sideways. I even settled an old score with the mountain. I was so frustrated last year I virtually had a brake down on the trail. This year I came away with a new jubilance and feeling of accomplishment like never before.

I am so looking forward to the rest of the season. I hope to see all my pals again soon. I know my team under the guidance of Captain James will pull it all together in the coming weeks. As our new race jerseys claim “we are out there” for each other, for all our friends that needed tubes and spare parts, and the guys like racers edge that depend on us to all to keep the Mac series the best race series on the east coast

Later on over and out!!!!

Rick
