The Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz racing team announced today its team for the upcoming 2006-competition season.

Leading the charge again this year will be one of the world’s top downhill mountain bike racers, Australian Sam Hill. Hill, 21, has been with the Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz racing team for three seasons now and has just inked a deal that will have him on the team for another three years. A two-time Junior World Champion (2002-’03) and two-time US Open Champion, Hill finished second in the UCI World Cup downhill standings the past two years (2004-’05). Hill has also won medals at the World Championships the past two seasons, collecting a Bronze in ’04 and a silver this past summer. Hill will again focus on the UCI World Cup series this summer, the UCI World Championships (Aug. 22-27 in New Zealand) and at select ‘big time’ events throughout the world.

Joining Hill in men’s competition will be fellow Australian Justin Havukainen. In his sophomore year on the Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz racing team, Havukainen, 22, cracked the top ten last year on the UCI World Cup tour and blazed to a podium finish in the US Open. This summer Havukainen will focus on North American events, including the NCS National Series, North American World Cup races and the US Open.

Rounding out the ’06 Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz racing team will be team newcomer Sabrina Jonnier. Considered to be a lock on the podium in any race she enters, Jonnier, 25, was last year’s US Open Champion, placed second overall on the UCI World Cup Series and scored a silver medal at the UCI World Championships. Expect some impressive races again this year from the ultra-fast French talent.

“We’ve again assembled a strong team that will certainly be working hard to keep the Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz three-year winning streak alive in the US Open,” said Team Manager Sean Heimdal. “And on a global scale, I don’t see a combined men’s and women’s team with the firepower we’ll enjoy with Sam and Sabrina on the UCI World Cup Series. Our preseason goal is to capture gold at the World Championships, while dominating the NCS National Series here at home.”

Heimdal added that the Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz race team will also increase its presence beyond the race events this year with scheduled appearances throughout the season, along with numerous photo and video shoots at exotic locations all over the planet.

Also lending a hand to the Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz racing team are sponsors: Alligator Cables (shift cables), Avid (brakes), Crank Brother (pedals), DT Swiss (wheels, rims, hubs, and spokes), E13 (chain guides), Five Ten (shoes), FSA (cranks, bottom brackets, seat posts, and headsets), FUNN (handle bars and stems), Maxima (lubes), Maxxis (tires), Minoura (trainers), Rock Shox (suspension), Sella Italia (seats), SRAM (drive train), THE (chain stay protectors) and Troy Lee Designs.
